About the Journal

Revista Música e Cultura (Music and Culture Journal) has been published since 2006 as the official journal of the Brazilian Association of Ethnomusicology (ABET), previously hosted on the association's website (www.abet.mus.br). Under the Collection(Acervo) tab, you can find previous volumes originally published on the ABET website. Since 2024, Música e Cultura has operated on a new profile within the OJS (Open Journal Systems) platform, aiming to maintain regular publication through specific thematic calls and/or continuous flow, addressing the growing demand for debates on the thematic diversity that characterizes the field of ethnomusicology in Brazil and globally.

Música e Cultura is an open, dialogical, and plural journal, defined by interdisciplinarity within the field of music studies. It accepts submissions that contribute to the development and growth of Brazilian Ethnomusicology, valuing diverse forms of knowledge from various territories, both academic and community-based. A primary objective is that submitted works reflect ethics in academic research and value music, sound, culture, and the various intersections involving those who create music. The journal encourages critical and reflexive approaches that seek to collaborate with social justice and equity regarding gender, race, sexuality, and territory, among others.
