This summary addresses Public Culture Policies in Paraíba/Brazil, highlighting the achievements, effectiveness, and impacts of Law nº. 7,694, known as the “Lei Canhoto da Paraíba” on the lives of popular culture teachers more than ten years after its implementation. A case study methodology was employed, focusing on the life of Mestra Maria da Penha dos Anjos Nascimento, known as Mestra Penha Cirandeira. The dialogue with Mestra Penha was facilitated through an interview generously granted to the authors of this work. The findings suggest that, despite its shortcomings, the aforementioned law has positively impacted the lives of popular culture teachers in Paraíba/Brasil.
